Estimator – Electrical / MEP / Critical Infrastructure
£65,000+ per annum, depending on experience, plus company car or car allowance
Permanent | Full-time
Take ownership of major tenders and help secure technically complex engineering projects.
PW Construction Recruitment is recruiting an experienced Estimator to join a specialist engineering team delivering data centre and critical infrastructure projects across the UK.
This opportunity would suit an Electrical Estimator or MEP / Building Services Estimator who combines strong technical understanding with commercial judgement and enjoys developing competitive bids.
You will price major plant, electrical systems and mechanical, electrical and fabric subcontract packages, working closely with engineering and delivery colleagues to develop accurate, commercially viable proposals.
The Role
You will manage estimates from initial enquiry through to final tender submission, establishing the scope of works, assessing technical requirements and building a clear picture of project costs.
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documents, identifying requirements, exclusions and areas needing clarification.
-
Undertaking detailed take-offs and preparing estimates for electrical, mechanical and associated packages.
-
Issuing material and subcontractor enquiries, analysing quotations and checking compliance with tender requirements.
-
Pricing major plant, electrical systems and specialist subcontract packages.
-
Attending site visits with clients, suppliers and subcontractors to understand scope and delivery requirements.
-
Identifying commercial and technical risks, opportunities and value-engineering options.
-
Working with design, engineering, commercial and project teams to assess methodology and alternative solutions.
-
Identifying long-lead equipment and potential procurement or programme constraints.
-
Supporting tender programmes and using estimating software to develop pricing.
-
Preparing internal tender documentation for senior approval and supporting formal proposals.
-
Maintaining accurate estimating records and effective supply-chain relationships.
About You
You will have previous estimating experience within electrical contracting, MEP, building services or critical infrastructure, with a strong understanding of electrical systems and a good working knowledge of wider mechanical and electrical services.
You should be confident interpreting technical information, undertaking take-offs and assessing supplier and subcontractor quotations. Experience preparing successful competitive tenders is particularly relevant.
You will also need:
-
Strong numerical, analytical and commercial skills.
-
An understanding of construction methods and project delivery.
-
The ability to identify tender risks and propose practical alternatives.
-
Excellent attention to detail and the organisation to manage competing deadlines.
-
Clear communication skills and confidence working with technical teams, clients and suppliers.
-
The ability to work independently while contributing to a wider team.
An HNC, HND or degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline would be advantageous, although relevant industry experience will also be considered.
Relevant Project Experience
Experience estimating data centres, communications rooms or similar critical infrastructure projects would be highly advantageous.
Candidates from electrical contracting, M&E / MEP contracting, critical power or large commercial engineering projects may also offer relevant transferable experience.
A full UK driving licence is required, together with the ability to attend site visits and client meetings. Existing security clearance or experience on secure projects would be beneficial but is not essential.
What’s on Offer?
-
Salary of £65,000+ per annum, depending on experience.
-
Company car or car allowance.
-
Permanent, full-time employment.
-
Exposure to technically complex, high-value projects.
-
Professional training and long-term career development.
-
The opportunity to influence project solutions and play a key role in securing future work.
