Estimator – Passive Fire Protection & Fire Doors
Location: Essex (Office-based | Hybrid considered)
Salary: £45,000 – £65,000 basic (dependent on experience)
The Opportunity
I am currently working with a well-established, third-party accredited passive fire protection contractor operating across London and the South-East. Due to a sustained increase in secured and upcoming work, they are looking to appoint an Intermediate to Senior Estimator to join their growing commercial team.
This is a key role within the business, supporting fire-stopping and fire door projects from initial enquiry through to handover. The position would suit an estimator who values accuracy, technical detail, and compliance, and who understands the responsibility that comes with pricing life-safety works.
The company delivers work for managing agents, housing associations, local authorities, and tier-one contractors, often within occupied and live environments. Their reputation is built on doing things properly—with strong systems, clear audit trails, and a genuine commitment to building safety and compliance.
The Role
As an Estimator, you will be responsible for producing accurate, compliant, and commercially sound tenders for passive fire protection and fire door works. You will work closely with project managers, site teams, suppliers, and senior leadership to ensure clarity of scope and smooth transition into delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
-
Reviewing drawings, specifications, surveys, and fire strategies
-
Preparing detailed cost estimates covering labour, materials, access, and preliminaries
-
Quantifying works in line with current standards and manufacturers’ guidance
-
Liaising with clients, suppliers, fire engineers, and internal teams to clarify scope
-
Preparing and submitting tenders, including alternative or value-engineered options where appropriate
-
Ensuring pricing aligns with third-party accreditation requirements (e.g. IFC, BlueSky, ASFP best practice)
-
Supporting clear and structured handover to the project delivery team
Ideal Candidate Profile
My client is open to intermediate or senior-level estimator candidates, provided there is demonstrable experience within passive fire protection, fire doors, or a closely related discipline.
You are likely to have:
-
Previous estimating experience within passive fire protection, fire doors, or specialist construction
-
Strong ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
-
A structured, methodical approach with high attention to detail
-
Confidence communicating with clients and internal stakeholders
-
Good Excel skills and experience using estimating tools
-
A collaborative, quality-driven mindset
Knowledge of IFC, BlueSky, or ASFP guidance would be beneficial but is not essential.
Salary & Benefits
-
£45,000 – £65,000 basic salary, depending on experience
-
Stable workload with strong forward visibility
-
Close working relationship with senior leadership
-
Opportunity to develop within a technically respected and compliance-focused business
-
Supportive, professional team environment
This salary range reflects the London and South-East market for experienced Passive Fire Protection Estimators at intermediate to senior level.
Location & Working Arrangement
The role is primarily office-based at the company’s Essex head office, enabling close collaboration with the commercial and delivery teams.
Hybrid working may be considered for the right individual, subject to experience and business requirements, and would be agreed on a case-by-case basis.
