Permanent, full-time
Shape the programmes behind technically complex engineering and construction projects.
PW Construction Recruitment is recruiting an experienced Project Planner to join a specialist engineering business delivering data centre, critical infrastructure and construction projects.
This opportunity would suit a planning professional who enjoys developing detailed programmes, challenging delivery assumptions and helping project teams anticipate and resolve programme risks.
You will support projects from tender and pre-construction through to delivery and completion, working closely with Project Managers, engineering teams, procurement, subcontractors and senior stakeholders.
The Role
You will develop, maintain and monitor project schedules, ensuring they reflect delivery requirements, resource availability and contractual milestones.
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Preparing tender programmes to support bids and pre-construction activities.
-
Developing baseline programmes, detailed schedules and resource-loaded plans.
-
Monitoring progress against milestones and identifying critical-path activities.
-
Producing short-term and long-term look-ahead programmes.
-
Identifying delays, dependencies, constraints and programme risks.
-
Developing recovery schedules with project teams where progress falls behind plan.
-
Coordinating programme inputs from engineering, procurement, suppliers and subcontractors.
-
Preparing weekly and monthly progress reports for clients and senior management.
-
Managing programme revisions and maintaining accurate records of changes and progress.
-
Supporting delay analysis and extension-of-time submissions where required.
-
Monitoring resource requirements and supporting production planning where needed.
-
Ensuring programmes remain aligned with contractual requirements throughout delivery.
You will provide clear, practical planning information that helps teams understand priorities, assess the impact of change and make informed decisions.
About You
You will have at least five years’ project planning experience, ideally gained on large-scale engineering, construction, infrastructure or industrial projects.
You should be confident building programmes from first principles, assessing progress and challenging information to ensure schedules are realistic and achievable.
Your experience should include:
-
Baseline programmes, detailed scheduling and resource loading.
-
Critical-path methodology and programme dependencies.
-
Project controls, performance monitoring and earned value management.
-
Programme risk, change management and delay analysis.
-
Recovery planning and communicating the implications of programme changes.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and organisation are essential. You will also need the confidence to work with multidisciplinary teams, communicate programme issues clearly and manage competing priorities.
A degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related discipline would be advantageous.
Planning Software
Strong practical experience with Primavera P6, Asta Powerproject or Microsoft Project is essential.
Advanced Primavera P6 and/or Asta Powerproject capability, together with a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Project, would be particularly valuable.
You should be comfortable using planning software to produce detailed programmes, critical-path analysis, progress updates and recovery schedules.
Relevant Industry Experience
Experience within data centres, critical infrastructure, M&E / MEP, building services or critical power would be particularly beneficial.
Candidates with relevant experience in industrial engineering, modular construction or major infrastructure projects will also be considered.
Experience supporting the full project lifecycle, from tender through to completion, would be advantageous.
What’s on Offer?
-
Salary of up to £60,000 per annum, depending on experience.
-
Company car or car allowance.
-
Permanent, full-time employment.
-
Exposure to technically complex, high-value engineering projects.
