PW Construction Recruitment are delighted to be working on behalf of a well-established and growing specialist contractor operating across the highways, surfacing and civil engineering sectors.
Due to continued growth, our client is looking to recruit a motivated and ambitious Trainee Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Assistant to join their commercial team at their Hoo, Kent office.
This is an excellent opportunity for a college leaver, or someone looking to start a career within the construction industry. Although a Construction focused HNC/HND or Degree are preferred, full training and mentoring will be provided by experienced Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Managers, offering a structured pathway towards becoming a fully qualified Quantity Surveyor.
About the Role:
Working alongside experienced commercial professionals, you will gain hands-on experience supporting the delivery of asphalt surfacing, highway maintenance and civil engineering projects.
You will develop valuable commercial, contractual and financial skills whilst learning how major construction projects are managed from tender stage through to completion.
Key Responsibilities:
Commercial Support

Assist with preparing cost estimates and tender submissions

Support the measurement and valuation of completed works
-
Help prepare applications for payment, interim valuations and final accounts

Maintain accurate records of project costs, variations and commercial documentation

Assist with cost reporting and forecasting activities
Project Monitoring
-
Monitor project performance against budgets
-
Liaise with site teams regarding labour, materials and plant usage
-
Assist with subcontractor administration and payment processes
-
Support the management of project variations and change orders
Procurement
-
Obtain quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
-
Assist with preparing purchase orders and subcontract documentation
-
Monitor material costs and supplier performance
-
Support supplier negotiations to ensure best value
Contract Administration

Assist with administering contracts and commercial procedures

Maintain project records, correspondence and contractual documentation
-
Support compliance with client and company requirements
Site Exposure

Attend site visits to gain practical knowledge of surfacing and highway projects

Carry out measurements and quantity take-offs
-
Build relationships with operational teams, suppliers and clients

Develop an understanding of health, safety, environmental and quality standards
